1. Satvik Aahar (Healthy diet)
Sattvic food is that which purifies the body and gives peace to the mind.
Cooked food if consumed within 3-4 hours is considered sattvic.
Example - Fresh fruits, green leafy vegetables, almonds etc., cereals and fresh milk.(no onion, garlic)
2. Rajsik Aahar (Royal diet)
These diets stimulate the body and mind to work. Excessive intake of these brings hyperactivity, restlessness, anger, irritability, insomnia etc. in the body.
Delicious foods are rajasic.
Example – Spicy food, onion, garlic, tea, coffee and fried foods.
3.Tamsik Aahar (Vindictive diet)
Tamasic foods are those that dull the body and mind. Excessive consumption of these leads to inertia, confusion and disorientation.
Rancid or reheated food, oily or over-dried food and food with artificial preservatives fall under this category.
Example - Non-vegetarian diet, stale food, excessive intake of fat, oily and excessively sweet food.
Not only the right kind of food, but also the right amount of food at the right time is extremely important. Excessive eating causes lethargy in the body, while eating less food does not provide enough nutrients to the body. Most of the time, we know that our stomach is full, but we cannot resist because of delicious food.
